Facebook mobile users is now at 65 million.  This is almost one-third of the total population of Facebook which is around 200 million already.

The recent growth is due to the mobile service which Facebook started in 2006. Facebook’s mobile web site m.facebook.com works on any mobile browser. It has  x.facebook.com also which is designed specifically for touch screen phones like Android, Palm, iPhone and Nokia.

Facebook introduced a new feature called ‘Facebook Connect’. It is a system wherein a developer can integrate with Facebook for their own services. This will also provide the users a single log-ins for all Facebook services.

Mobile access is becoming increasingly important for Facebook in order to expand globally. Currently, the best mobile interfaces are found on iPhone and Blackberry. Facebook recently launch Facebook for iPhone 3.0 and people have been very pleased with the new features.

Nokia is also gearing on the same direction.  Nokia just announced a new handset, the N900, which uses a Linux-based operating system called “Maemo.”  This new gadget will have a Facebook application that allows users to update their location with their status.

Google’s Gmail service was inaccessible last Tuesday in a severe outage that  affected a majority of users  who are relying on Google’s popular free e-mail service.

Google explained that  Tuesday’s widespread outage occurred when the company took some servers offline to perform their scheduled routine maintenance. This  caused  its remaining routers to become overloaded with traffic.

Ben Treynor, a Google vice president of engineering apologized on their blog ““Thus, right up front, I’d like to apologize to all of you — today’s outage was a Big Deal, and we’re treating it as such,”. He wrote” We’ve turned our full attention to helping ensure this kind of event doesn’t happen again. Some of the actions are straightforward and are already done — for example, increasing request router capacity well beyond peak demand to provide headroom”.

Twitter users were trading updates about Gmail’s problems and became the a top trending topic on that day.

Google reported Tuesday afternoon that it fixed the problem.

A relatively new mild virus is spreading around by infecting programs/software that were developed in Delphi.  According to anti-virus vendor BitDefender, the virus “spreads by infecting systems that have the Delphi compiler from version 4  up to 7.0 installed.”

Sophos, the company that first discovered the virus “W32/Induc-A”  stated that this virus “searches computers for installations of Delphi, then attempts to temporarily modify SysConst.pas, and compiles this to infect SysConst.dcu. The original SysConst.dcu can be restored from the backup made by the virus in SysConst.bak.”

Michael Swindell, VP of products at Embarcadero, responded when he learned about the virus affecting Delphi IDEs:

This is just another way for a virus to infect executable code. It makes it sound like Delphi or IDEs are now “vulnerable,” but they are no more or less vulnerable than any other of the thousands of EXEs and DLLs on every developers machine, and no more or less than they have been since viruses and trojans were first created. This is a clever trick, but it’s nothing to be more worried about than all of the other ways your dev machine can be attacked. Use virus scanners and keep them up to date.” http://sdtimes.com/blog/1508

Instructions for Removing the Virus:

By default, most anti-virus software do not scan .DCU (delphi compiled unit) and .pas (pascal unit) file extensions, so you need to turn on the option to scan all file extensions and do a full system scan. If the anti-virus detected the virus, replace the .dcu and .pas from a clean backup files.

It’s also a must to recompile all software from a cleaned Delphi and replaced the infected compiled executables.

Most of you are probably wondering why there’s not much update here within the last 2 months. This is because of some feedbacks from various colleagues which I received and they want the jobs category to be separated totally from the personal blog and news. With the released of the new version WordPress, I intend to re-organize and relaunch the website.

Watch out for a more organized, less cluttered, easier to navigate and more importantly ,a user friendly layout of Delphinoy.
